91.7 WEEM-FM
signed on the air November 1, 1970 as a 10 watt FM station. In
1979 the power was raised to 1,200 watts, covering roughly 20
miles.
91.7 WEEM-FM is Central Indiana's premier station for new rock.
In keeping with the tradition of non-commercial broadcasting, 91.7
WEEM seeks to support the achievement of developing artists and
songwriters who would otherwise go unheard.

91.7 WEEM is featured in Indianapolis' InTake Magazine
Thursday May 25th.
PHHS Senior Josh Brown competes in the Indiana Association of
School Broadcasters state completion at the University of
Indianapolis in April.
Partnership with My Old Kentucky Blog & Sirrius Satellite Radio
starts in March. Many bands visit the WEEM studios to record
songs and interview segments used on 91.7 WEEM and a Sirrius
Satellite Radio program.
A couple of programming additions in January. 91.7 WEEM's
contemporary Christian music show,
The Ark
was extended to 3 hours. The show airs Sundays from 6:00p to
3:00p.
91.7 WEEM announced Friday 1/19/07 it would debut a hard rock
show.

is 91.7 WEEM's most played record of 2006 with nearly 600
spins. The band visited the 91.7 WEEM studios twice in 2006.
Two Indianapolis-based bands placed second & third. The re-release
of
Margo And The Nuclear So & Sos' The Dust of Retreat was
played nearly 500 times (after the original release was spun 300
times in '05), and
Extra Blue Kind's The Tide & The Undertow had 400 spins
(in addition to its 173 plays in '05).
It was a great year of accomplishments for 91.7 WEEM-FM. From a
steady flow of in-studio guests to the establishment of the
stations first legitimate website,

91.7 WEEM also offers coverage of the South Madison Community with
State Champion caliber
Pendleton
Heights Arabian sportscasts and school and community news,
events and activities. 91.7 WEEM broadcasters followed PHHS
Football, PHHS Boys & Girls basketball, PHHS Arabian baseball and PHHS
Lady Arabian softball around the state. Highlights included
broadcasting live from the RCA Dome in Indianapolis and Hinkle
Fieldhouse on the Butler University campus.
Two students started specialty music programs in 2006. Rodney
Conner ('07) maintains Area91, two hours of dance music at 11pm on
Friday and Saturday nights. Josh Brown ('07) has launched The
Ark, two hours of today's Christian hits, Sunday nights at 7pm
91.7 WEEM noted it's 36th anniversary of broadcasting on November
1st, 2006
It was a 91.7 "Hallo-WEEM" on October 31st.
91.7 WEEM is looking forward to an amazing 2007. On the station's
radar for
the New Year: live, 24-hour webcasting, more in-studio live
performances and
backstage interviews, expanding the station's promotional,
philanthropic and community outreach and enhancing relationships
with local venues, retailers, artists, media and bloggers.
91.7 WEEM 2005 Highlights
Seniors Kevin Barkdull ('05) and Brad Schnepp ('05) placed 1st in
the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters competition
for their sportscasts of Arabian football.
Seniors Rachel Lewis ('05) and Kim Hamilton ('05) received
backstage passes to
the 2005 Vans' Warped Tour. They interviewed bands such as Fall
Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Matchbook Romance, Hawthorne Heights
and The Starting Line. Lewis produced a 1/2 hour "wrap-up"
special of the Vans' Warp Tour that aired on 91.7 WEEM
Juniors Leigh Montano ('06) and Amanda Downham ('06) took part in
a recording session with Tom Griswold and Duke Tumatoe at
Griswold's recording studio, The Static Shack. They recorded
parts that were used in songs sent to The Bob & Tom Show radio
network stations during the NCAA Basketball Tournament. After the
recording session, they toured The Static Shack, Q95, X103 and
WNDE studios. The pair were invited back to watch a live
broadcast of The Bob & Tom Show from their studios at Q95.
National touring band Extra Blue Kind visited 91.7 WEEM studios
for on-air interview and an acoustic performance. Rachel Lewis
conducted the interview while Leigh Montano and Rodney Conner took
photographs. These exclusive acoustic performances continue to
air on 91.7 WEEM.
91.7 WEEM once again offered complete coverage of PHHS football,
boys' and girls' basketball, and major coverage of Arabian
softball and baseball.
91.7 WEEM received press credentials to the 2006 Men's and Women's
Big Ten
Tournaments and provided coverage of the games.
Received press credentials to the 2005 Midwest Music Summit,
a conference featuring over 400 bands and dozens of music
industry representatives from all over the county.
Established relationships with most major record labels and
promotion companies, as well as dozens of independent labels and
companies. 91.7 WEEM now receives numerous CD's each week to
consider for airplay.
91.7 WEEM began airing
Fall Creek County, a 4-hour show that airs Sundays from 8:00
am to 12:00 pm. The show is locally programmed and host by 91.7
WEEM students. The show often features local talent such as Casey
Jamerson, Ryan Leffingwell and Joey Martin. Listeners have
commented that the music mix is much better than that of the
area's professional country music stations.
91.7 WEEM began using a technique known as "voice-tracking" where
a DJ can
pre-record their show for a time when the station is typically
closed, such as
overnights and weekends.
91.7 WEEM installed a new audio system that allows the station to
stay on the air 24/7. This new automation system is used as a
music playback audio system when the station is fully staffed and
as an automation system overnights and on weekends.
91.7 WEEM began airing
Acoustic Cafe a two hour syndicated program that airs
Sundays at 12:00 pm following Fall Creek Country. |
